Attendance

The Earl of Dysart Primary School is committed to providing a very good education for your child. We believe that your child gains so much from the education we provide that regular attendance at school is very important.  We will do all we can to help your child achieve the highest possible attendance at school and reward your child if they achieve full attendance over a period of time.

How can YOU help us?

  1. Let us know if your child will be absent from school and you know in advance
  2. Let us know on the first day your child is off school and the reason why
  3. Inform the office by letter, telephone, text message or in person as to the reason for your child’s absence
  4. In line with Government policy we operate first day calling – so a member of staff will contact you by telephone or text message if we do not receive a message about your child’s non attendance. Therefore it is very important that you keep the office up to date with your contact numbers
  5. Absenteeism

When your child is absent from school it is important that you let us know the reason why. This can be done by letter, telephone call (01476 562091) or text message (07955965036) and will enable us to class the absence as authorised. Failure to inform the school will result in an unauthorised absence being recorded on the Department for Education's annual return.

No child is permitted to leave school unaccompanied by an adult during normal school hours. Prior written notice of this withdrawal must be given to the School Administrator. Before collecting a child the authorised adult must report to the School office and sign the child out.

If a family holiday is taken in school time it should not exceed two weeks in a school year. A holiday form must be filled in for this purpose prior to the holiday being taken. Forms are available from the school office, on request. Unless word to the contrary is received within three days, it may be assumed that the leave of absence, not exceeding two weeks, is granted.  We do not encourage the taking of holidays during term time, and strongly advise parents not to take holidays during the times of National Testing (SATs). For registration purposes there are two categories of absence, authorised and unauthorised, for which there are strict guidelines.

Lateness

If for any reason your child is late for school we would encourage you to bring them in or send them in regardless of being late. Anyone who is late must report to the office so that the register can be updated.

Homework

For children in the Upper School Maths homework will be given on Monday and collected in on Tuesday. Literacy homework will be given on Wednesday and collected in on Thursday.

KS1 children will receive an activity to complete over the weekend. Reading is encouraged and expected every night.
